My great grandfather, Peter, wouldn’t have liked the big chain stores where most of us shop today. His grocery store was for the neighborhood because those were the people he knew best. If he found out that you liked your bacon sliced extra thick, he’d make sure that you got it that way every time – without having to ask. He offered a home delivery service for the people who couldn’t make it to the store. Though he wouldn’t have lost much business without them, he kept up the deliveries because it was a service that his community needed.

When Peter died back in 1923, his wife Ida took over the business and kept up his commitment to personal service. When she retired in 1960, customers at her grocery store still found the same level of quality that the store’s original shoppers received way back at the turn of the century.
